Are women more prone to Thyroid Issues

Everybody can get thyroid disease, although some people are more susceptible than others. Thyroid disease can impact women differently than they do males, and women are more likely than men to experience thyroid issues. Women should be aware of thyroid disorder symptoms and consult best the best endocrinologist in Dubai if they experience any of them.

What is the most common thyroid among women?

Hypothyroidism is the most typical thyroid condition seen in female patients. Compared to hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism is much more common.

15% to 20% of all women over 50 are affected by it. It is characterised by lethargy, exhaustion, cold limbs, and digestive issues like constipation and is brought on by insufficient thyroxine production. In comparison this disease with hyperthyroidism, which can affect females of any age.

The disease known as hyperthyroidism is characterised by an excessive thyroxine synthesis. One percent of women and even fewer men experience hyperthyroidism.

In addition to difficulty falling asleep, abrupt weight loss, abnormal menstruation periods, and thinning of the skin, nails, and hair can all be signs of hyperthyroidism. Heart palpitations and increased sweating are also observed. Between the ages of 20 and 40, the symptoms are frequently seen.

Because there are numerous possible causes for the symptoms of thyroid dysfunction, it can be confusing. In women, it frequently remains unnoticed and undiagnosed. Experts recommends women to screen their TSH levels after the age of 35, every five years. Aster Hospitals Dubai, is one of the best hospitals for thyroid treatment in Dubai.

Signs and Symptoms

Depending on the severity of the hormone deficiency, the signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism vary. Problems often emerge gradually, over a period of years.

At first, symptoms of hypothyroidism, such as fatigue and weight gain, may go unnoticed. You could also blame them on getting older. However, as your metabolism slows, you may develop more visible problems. These are the common signs and symptoms:

· Fatigue

· Increased sensitivity to cold

· Constipation

· Dry skin

· Weight gain

· Puffy face

· Hoarseness

· Muscle weakness

· Elevated blood cholesterol level

· Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness

· Pain, stiffness or swelling in your joints

· Heavier than normal or irregular menstrual periods

· Thinning hair

· Slowed heart rate

· Depression

Treatment

Thyroid disorder treatment is frequently long-term, simple, and inexpensive. Thyroxine supplementation on a daily basis is usually recommended for life. The patient must take the thyroxine tablets on an empty stomach every day at the same time.

Apart from medication, there are a few other treatment options for hyperthyroidism, including radioiodine therapy and surgery. The treatment modality chosen is determined by the patient's age, pregnancy, and the nature of the disorder.

If you do not seek treatment for hypothyroidism, it can progress to a serious and potentially fatal medical condition. If you do not receive treatment, your symptoms may worsen and include:

· Developing mental health problems.

· Having trouble breathing.

· Not being able to maintain a normal body temperature.

· Having heart problems.

· Developing a goitre

Aster Hospitals always strive for a better health for everyone.
