Radiology

Our body is not always truthful to us. Sometimes, the way we look and feel might be in total disagreement with how our health actually is. Radiology is the branch of healthcare that allows you to look beyond this deceit and actually examine and diagnose any diseases hiding inside your body. Radiology or Imaging Diagnostics essentially support various other functions within healthcare and the reports generated in the tests help guide the doctors further in their patient-care journey. Radiologists use a medley of methods such as X-ray radiography, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), nuclear medicine including positron emission tomography (PET), medical imaging (MI) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in order to detect diseases and determine the apt treatment for the patient. Radiologists play a key role in healthcare by guiding the physician and also taking the opinion of an expert consultant when necessary. After a patient has undergone the tests, a Radiologist will interpret and analyze the reports obtained through imaging and prepare a list of observations and conclusions that will further aid the consulting doctor to prepare the treatment strategy, while, at times, also referring to other functions within healthcare as and when warranted.

About Radiology:

Radiology helps uncover critical diseases that might not be evident on the outside until the last stage and hence, play an important part in providing precise, quality, and dependable diagnostics as it’s the test that determines the rest of the treatment.

Radiation Oncologists:

Radiation Oncologists are a highly-skilled team of doctors who are essential for cancer detection and cure. These professionals critically examine each case to finally be able to suggest the best treatment plan for the patient. They are involved right from the test phase to progress monitoring, and, if required, they also alter the treatment plans to ensure that they are in line with the changing patient conditions.

Interventional Radiology:

These doctors diagnose and cure patients through image-guided, minimally-invasive methods such as MRI and X-Rays. They detect the disease by carefully guiding medical instruments through minute incisions to directly reach the root of the disease. These doctors generally get involved in the case of heart disease, cancer and uterine fibroids, and stroke.

While each test is tailored to the patient, there are some broad Imaging Diagnostic Modalities that radiologists usually work around.

  • Projection Radiography
  • Fluoroscopy
  • Computed Tomography
  • Ultrasound
  • MRI: Magnetic Resource Imaging
  • Nuclear Medicine

Although a Radiology test is prescribed mostly during the early stages of diagnosis, a doctor may recommend you a radiology test to check the progress on a certain disease that has already been diagnosed.

Here are a few of the most common reasons why a Radiology test is prescribed:

Mammogram: Key to detecting Breast Cancer, this test helps detect the disease in its nascent stage and thus, opening up more and better avenues for a cure.

Ultrasound: Built on the concept of sound waves, an Ultrasound generates images of critical organs, tissues, and blood flows. An ultrasound is recommended to examine fetus health, diagnose cancers, and detect lumps in the breast or gallbladder diseases.

Echocardiogram (ECG): A diagnostic for heart-related diseases, an Echocardiogram or an ECG is a specific kind of ultrasound exam.

Services:

Radiology is a medical speciality that uses imaging to diagnose and treat diseases hiding within the body. A variety of imaging techniques such as X-ray radiography, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), nuclear medicine including positron emission tomography (PET), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are used to diagnose and/or treat diseases.

The cutting-edge Diagnostic Radiology services at Aster Hospitals utilizes a combination of highly-developed technologies and skilled department members to ensure that the patients get as detailed and accurate a diagnosis as possible while remaining as comfortable as possible during the radiology procedures.
