MANAGE TYPE 2 DIABETES

What is type 2 diabetes?

It is a condition where blood sugar levels spike due to pancreas damage. When the pancreas is affected, it either produces very little insulin or none at all.

Type 2 diabetes is common among 90 per cent of the global diabetic population. On the other hand, type 1 diabetes is rare.  Aster Hospitals, one of the best hospitals in the UAE always strive for a healthy lifestyle to prevent diabetes.

You can visit the best Endocrinologist in Dubai if you have hormonal imbalance due to type 2 diabetes.

Symptoms to watch out

  • Increased thirst

  • Frequent urination

  • Hunger,

  • Fatigue

  • Blurred vision

How can you manage Type 2 diabetes?

Diet is vital

When you have diabetes, it’s important to track the type of food you eat and how much of it? Generally, a diabetic patient should consume more fibre through plant-based foods like fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Try to incorporate boost protein intake in each meal up to 25 per cent.

Control intake of

  • Carbohydrates

  • Sugar

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Schedule your daily meals and healthy snacks

  • Cut down on portion sizes

  • Add non-starchy vegetables and whole grains

  • Avoid too much intake of sweets and refined grains

  • Use healthy oils while cooking meals

  • Develop new habits to eliminate junk foods

Few top foods for diabetes

  • Leafy Greens

  • Fatty Fish

  • Nuts and Eggs

  • Seeds

  • Natural Fats

  • Apple Cider Vinegar

  • Cinnamon and Turmeric

Physical activity

Exercise is a vital element in maintaining and losing bodyweight. It also keeps the blood sugar under control. Always consult your doctor before starting any exercise routine. The intensity of any physical exercise depends on age, current health, and diet.

There are two types of exercises:

  • Aerobic

  • Resistance

Aerobic exercise involves running, swimming, walking, or biking. Adults should carry out 30 minutes of moderate to high intensity on most days of the week. Children should carry out 60 minutes of vigorous exercise daily.

Resistance exercises include weightlifting, yoga, and calisthenics. These exercises help maintain muscle mass and increase your strength and balance.

People with type 2 diabetes should incorporate two to three sessions of resistance training every week in their exercise regime.

Children should incorporate activities that build flexibility and strength in their workout routine at least three days a week. Activities include sports, resistance exercises, and climbing on playground equipment.

There are many hospitals in Dubai, but Aster Hospitals is the best for diabetic care.

Diabetic patients should not sit for a longer period while using the computer. They should take breaks in between and walk.

Stress management

People with diabetes should take extra care with stress management. They should pay attention to their feelings. Dealing with the disease can become overwhelming over time. But, stress can be managed by doing exercise, meditation, yoga, and eating healthy food.

Feelings should be shared with your doctor, nurse, diabetes educator, psychologist, or social worker. They can guide you to solve health related issues such as anxiety, mood swings, etc.
