Gall bladder Cancer - A complete guide

Updated On: 01/06/2022
Gallbladder Cancer And Its Symptoms
Oncology

An overview of Gall bladder cancer:

Gall bladder cancer is rare. People experience it when malignant (cancer) cell growth happens in the gall bladder. The most complex thing about the disease is its symptoms mostly show up in the later stage. Therefore, survival chances are good when the cancer is detected at its earliest stages. Aster Hospitals is one of the best cancer hospital in Dubai.

What are the common symptoms of gall bladder cancer?

Abdominal pain:

Many patients have complained about abdomen pain on the right side of the belly.

Vomiting or nausea:

Some people experience nausea while others don’t.

Jaundice:

Jaundice will occur if cancer has spread to the liver. In that case, the bile ducts will be blocked, and bile won’t drain into the intestines.

After that, a chemical called bilirubin (present in the bile) will build up in the blood and spread in the body. It will eventually cause jaundice.

Lumps in the abdomen:

The gallbladder can swell if cancer blocks the bile ducts. It can also affect nearby parts of the liver. Sometimes these changes are detected through ultrasound as limps on the right side of the belly region.

Some of the rare symptoms include

  • · Fever
  • · Dark urine
  • · Light-coloured or greasy stools
  • · Losing weight without exercise
  • · Yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes (jaundice)
  • · Loss of appetite

If you experience these symptoms consult the best oncologist in Dubai. Some symptoms can appear sooner. Doctors often find it easier to start treatment after early detection.

Sometimes, the symptoms can be a result of another ailment. For example, a person with gallbladder stones may also experience these symptoms. Furthermore, there are many ailments related to abdominal pain, and hepatitis is also a common cause of jaundice.

Therefore, a thorough diagnosis can only detect gallbladder cancer.

Causes of Gall Bladder Cancer

The exact causes of the cancer are still unknown. Many experienced doctors and experts say that gall bladder cancer forms when there is a DNA mutation in the healthy gallbladder cells.

When the change takes place, the tumour can grow and spread to other parts of the body as well.

Gallbladder cancer Prevention?

Certain risk factors such as age and ethnicity can’t be changed. Therefore, the disease is unpreventable. But, you can lower your risk by following these tips:

  • · Maintaining a healthy weight
  • · Eating a healthy diet
  • · Exercising

Some good Cancer-fighting foods

  • · Broccoli
  • · Berries
  • · Turmeric
  • · Carrots
  • · Legumes
  • · Fatty fish
  • · Apples
  • · Walnuts
  • · Almonds
  • · Kale
  • · Cauliflower

What to expect after treatment?

Doctors often monitor the health of the patient carefully after they have completed treatment. Follow-up appointments are vital. Therefore, the patient shouldn’t miss them. Generally, doctors gain knowledge about symptoms. Furthermore, they may direct physical tests including CT scans, imaging tests or blood tests.

It’s vital for patients to keep health insurance even after treatment because of uncertainty. In addition, some patients may require a counselling after a cancer treatment to keep themselves away from anxiety, depression, and other factors.
